The Latency Slider is a tool that will greatly improve the ease of use of our route servers; it provides the user with easy to use geo and latency selection options and black- and white-lists functions.
Networks can now set the maximum latency time allowed for peers through the Route Server. All peers connected to NL-ix with a latency over the set maximum are automatically excluded as a potential peering partner on the route server. Networks that only want to exchange traffic within a certain geographic region can easily point and click to select those geographic regions and include the networks from these regions as peering partners.
“Until now Route servers are a black box, with the latency slider we have managed to open it up and give our users full control”; says Jan Paul Dekker, CTO of NL-ix. ”The input of the community has been crucial to the development of this innovative tool that enables the peering networks connected to NL-ix to make the best use of the many possibilities our distributed exchange has to offer.”
The Latency slider will be available for connected networks in the MyNL-ix portal before the end of this year. An online version of the demo is available at https://www.nl-ix.net/Slider-Demo/index.html
